To test your central vision:

1) Position the Amsler Grid at a comfortable reading distance. If you wear reading glasses make sure you have them on.  Face the image squarely.  The pattern should be in focus.

2) Covering one eye with your hand, look directly at the square in the center of the grid.  While looking only at this center square, look to see if the lines are all straight, and the corners are intact.  Make certain you only look at the center.

3) If any of the lines appear distorted, blurred, discolored, or totally absent, you need to call your ophthalmologist right away.

4) Repeat the test for the other eye, following the same instructions above.
