There are known key ingredients for making calcified tissue, essential for the development of the skeleton. These ingredients may also be the cause of many disease processes caused by calcification of tissues not meant to be calcified, such as skin, muscle and blood vessels. Dr. Schoenecker will provide theory as to how the body protects soft tissues from calcification while allowing for calcification in bone. He will describe the breakdown of these processes which results in either calcification of soft tissue or conversely poor bone. Discover how scientists are currently using this information to develop new methods of restoring the balance of calcification in disease.
