Irwin Arias is a Professor of Medicine (Emeritus), Albert Einstein College of Medicine and Professor/Chairman of Cellular and Molecular Physiology (Emeritus) and Professor of Medicine, Tufts University School of Medicine. Senior scientist, Head Unit of Cellular Polarity, Cell Biology and Metabolism Branch, NICHD, NIH. Founder of Einstein Liver Research Center, and Founding Editor of Hepatology. Former President of American Association for Study of Liver Disease and Vice-President, American Society for Clinical Investigation. Numerous awards and lectureships for liver-related research and programs designed to bridge gap between basic science and medicine. Major research involves mechanisms of liver transport systems, regeneration, differentiation, polarity and transformation, mainly as related to inheritable diseases.
